HOT LEMON DRINK

Famous the world over, this delicious drink has been used a homemade remedy for flus, colds, fighting inflammation and an immune booster, the natural way.

The secrets behind its remarkable effectiveness are hidden in its simple-looking ingredients:

Hot water
Heating up your body helps it to fight against the multiplication of the little invaders that have taken over your body by providing an environment that is not as conducive for them to replicate in.
Water also serves as a cleanser to your system and whent it is heated, it metabolizes much faster into your system than cold water does.

Ginger
Ginger is a warming spice so it works in tandem with the heat of the liquid to help your body fight, but it’s also got a bio-active compound known as gingerol that makes it the medicinal powerhouse that it is. Ginger helps fight nausea, muscle pain and inflammation, which is why it’s effective in the case of colds and flu.

Honey
Honey is sweet and helps everything go down easily, yes, but it also has anti-bacterial properties that make it effective in fighting infections in your body. It has the additional benefit of soothing sore throats as well and boosting energy too, providing much needed strength when you’re feeling down.

Lemon/Lime
Lemons and Limes are rich in Vitamin C which is necessary for growth, development and repair of body tissues as well as cartilage, bones and teeth! Coupled with that, Lemons are great body purifiers and detoxifiers, purging your liver of toxins and neutralizing the body’s PH which creates a beneficial environment for healing.

God put such a treasure house of health and healing in the things that He made and, without much effort, one can reap endless benefits from them.

Here’s our favorite recipe for it:

Wash, peel and finely chop or grate a whole ginger root (size will depend on how strong you want it)
Boil for ten to fifteen minutes to get all the ginger essence out.
Strain this mixture.
Meanwhile squeeze a lemon or a bunch of limes and pour their juice (sans seeds) into a mug. Try to get about 20ml of liquid in there.
Add honey (to taste).
Pour in the hot water, stir to mix well.
Sit down and enjoy.

Looking for a bit of an extra kick? If you can handle it, crush and add to the boiling mixture a clove or two of garlic (which also has vitamin C and anti-bacterial properties – among other goodness) and for a double-extra punch, try some hot chillies (loaded with vitamin c, help fight pain and clear congestion).

HOT Tips
1) Don’t boil the honey or use boiling hot water with your honey. It kills some of its benefits. Let the water cool just a little so that you still have your lovely warming drink, but with the honey goodness still intact.
2) Wondering how to tell if your honey is genuine or sugar water? Try dipping a matchstick into it and striking the match against the strip to light it. If it lights – it’s honey.

That’s two HOT tips!
