A Prayer for Afrika

How far and how deep can the iniquity of men run before they get their just rewards?

How long before the sins of men attract the wrath of God on the land?

How far can we go with our consistent evil and the undermining of good?

How long till God says enough is enough and then unleashes His wrath?

Men live their lives and treat others as if there is no God who is the judge of all.

Politicians and government officials treat those who they lead like slaves only worthy of their attention when they need their votes. Religious leaders have turned their congregations to cash cows in the name of the Lord.

Injustice, wickedness, unkindness has become the order of the day.

But for the eyes that can see the evil that is coming on the land, it becomes very important to turn towards God. We absolutely cannot go on like this. So with this in mind, we simply pray:

For every time we have allowed wickedness to prevail in our lands and continent, Father forgive us.

For every time we have ignored murder and rape and robbery out of fear or out of personal benefit, Father forgive us.

For every benefit we have reaped from the hands of the wicked, and every time we have turned a blind eye to their evil deeds or joined them and collaborated with them in their evil deeds – even by our inaction or silence, Father forgive us.

For every time we have punished the just and the righteous for standing up against injustice, the unrighteous and unrighteousness, Father, forgive us.

For every time we have failed to cry to You for justice for the victims of this corruption and evil that we have tolerated, Father forgive us.

For allowing lies, deceit and manipulation to rule our lands, Father forgive us.

Forgive us Father, for thinking that we can remove locusts with chemicals when clearly You said:

When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” II Chronicles 7:13-14 NKJV

For not seeking and for disregarding Your Voice, Your Counsel and Your will, Father forgive us.

For allowing our lives and destinies and the lives and destinies of our children and generations to be defiled, stolen and corrupted while we stood by, Father forgive us.

For quietly living in the murk and the filth that is around us, financing it by our taxes and sustaining it by our votes and our cooperation and by not doing or saying anything lest our own comfort be disrupted, Father forgive us and help us to arise as a people and repent of all our wicked ways, and deal with injustice, and deal with unrighteousness, and cry to You to heal our lands.

For loving our lives more than we love You, Father forgive us.

Let us understand our authority, the wickedness of our unwillingness to pay the price and the cost of our inaction for us and those vulnerable ones who we fail to act on behalf of (Psalm 82) and let us become a people who take responsibility according to the roles You have given us Oh God.

Father hear us, Father cleanse us, Father cleanse our lands.

Father give us another chance to rise up and be Your people, to the glory of Your Name.

In the Name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.
