EDITOR's note

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those
who love it will eat its fruit.” This is a scripture from the
        book of Proverbs.
As Afrikans, it is time for us to take control of our
tongues. This loose behavior that many are fond of ex-
ercising on social media, or in clubs, or when hanging
out with friends, or in business, or government meet-
ings… where they say the first thing that comes to mind,
attacking people left, right and center, thinking they are
so witty – it has to end.
Each word is a seed, and frankly we are eating a lot of
the fruit of what we keep sowing and a lot of it is bad
fruit. We must live aware that we are responsible for the
words that we bring forth and the realities that they carry
        – whether we like it or not. So, if those words carry life,
love, brotherhood and peace – then those are words
whose environments we can confidently live in. But if
they are words that harm, hinder, or hurt, then they are
bringing forth curses, chaos, death and disaster, and
that is a harvest that we do not want or need as a peo-
        ple.
To be a blessing means to be cognizant of who we are,
what mandates we carry and to use our thoughts, words
and actions to bring life to those mandates and to the
people around us. Blessings bring forth life. Blessings
come forth from the wise people who understand that
it is safer to bless than to curse, because the one who
you may choose to curse is still a part of the society and
that curse will live on and speak and toxify the environ-
ment and the person, whereas a blessing will heal and
restore life. Also, living a life where you distribute bless-
ings leaves you free from fear of future harm from any
direction, and free from any burden of hatred, bitterness
and unforgiveness. Which is what Afrika and the world Chioma Phillips
        needs.
We have to choose the way of life to give life to all those
around us, and be the ones to restore life and light to
the world. That is our mandate as Afrikans. To override
the foolishness around us with the wisdom of knowing
that we carry life for the world in its dark and torn state
right now. And to provide the world with that life through
        our blessings. God bless you.
